Ownership is an illusion.
Let's take a deeper look at it.....
We come into this world as an innocent pure being.
We then become like little sponges soaking in all our surroundings. And one day we look into the mirror, mystified by that being we see in the reflection.
Then we learn our name.
And it's the sweetest sound to our ears - to hear our name. Then we connect that name to the reflection in the mirror.
That's ME! Look at ME! Look at ME!
And there's no problem with this until we start saying, 'That is mine! You can't have it! Give it to me! It's mine, mine, mine!
And if we grow up continuing to believe this mindset, it can be a big precursor to experiencing anxiety.
We start to believe that things belong to us and that we own them. And if we get anxious when these things are taken away or anxious at the thought of losing these things, then it means we're attached to them. It means we have developed this image of our self as 'the owner' of this or that.
But when we come right down to it, we really don't own anything that is outside of us.
The sooner we understand this, the less stress and anxiety we will develop because of it - and it can be quite a relief to realize this too!
We don't own our body.
We don't own our clothes.
We don't own our house.
We don't own our business.
We don't own our children.
We don't own our spouse.
We don't own our pets.
