[Note from Gina]-Hitting 'rock bottom' + learning from it, Part 2
Published: Sat, 06/01/13
So if you opened this note I'm assuming you're interested in
hearing more about how to learn from the experience of hitting
'rock bottom'.
[If you missed Part 1 of these notes, check back a couple days ago
in your inbox and you'll find it there.]
And by the way, I appreciate you taking the time to open up this
note.
As I said in my first note, a simple truth about hitting rock bottom
is that many people who have been at a really deep rock bottom place
in their lives have grown and learned something from it. And that
something usually has to do with learning something about
themselves. And from that learning, their life expands in some way.
And as you recall, in the last note I said I'd talk about:
How you begin to learn from this kind of experience.....
It has to do with another simple truth.
That simple truth has to do with one word that I speak about a lot
and that word is 'Awareness'.
Without awareness, you'll be stuck in that never-ending conversation
in the head with all the inner voices telling you how horrible this
place is to be.
However with awareness (and by 'awareness', all I'm talking about is
being present with what is happening in the moment), the more chance
there is of you learning from your experience. And that means the
more you'll learn from each and every experience you have - more
about yourself, your life, and your relationship to each. And you'll
be able to notice, and become aware of, those conversations in your
head and actually choose to have a different conversation. (This is
what I did with the recent loss of my special pup, Roxy.)
So without having the awareness of what is going on around you, it's
like you're a zombie, unknowlingly being controlled by the thoughts
in your mind. (This is the state I was in when I experienced the loss
of my first pup, Weezy - and I suffered more and healed much slower.)
But as soon as a spark of awareness, of realization, of noticing what
is going on within you and around you occurs, you then open yourself
up to the experience you are having.
And what does that mean?
Well, that means everything.....it means you can then have the
ability to choose what to do next. Whether that choice is to stay
where you are or to do something else, at least you are choosing
that with awareness. And by choosing with awareness, you can begin
to feel again. By feeling again you bring attention back into your
body and out of your mind.
Just by opening up that little bit of space by bringing the attention
back into your body, you begin to wake up from the trance of your
mind....and you break out of zombie-mode.
Then you can choose what to do next. There's always something you
can do.
You may be wondering, 'But what do I do?'
I'll cover that more in my next note.....so keep an eye out
as it will arrive in a couple days.......and I'll have a little
homework for you to do next too.....no worries, it won't take a lot
of your time ;), but will be worth your time....big difference there,
right?!.......
Until then, breathe big.......
inhale ~ enjoy ~ exhale,
