Anxiety can cause one to feel quite unfocused, scatter brained and foggy.
What's the best thing to do?
Hone in on one thing.
I know it's not easy to focus in on one thing. Heck, it's even hard for one who is feeling stress and anxiety to even sit and do nothing for 5 minutes.
But you know what, it's the best thing you can do.
Why?
Because that's how you start to feel better and less anxious.....
.....to slow down, stop multi-tasking for 5 minutes and pay attention to yourself and what's going on within you.
Meditation is quite a great tool for this.
So is mindfulness......and meditation helps in learning mindfulness as well.
Why is having focus so important?
Have you ever had a tough challenge surface for you that you just couldn't handle? Instead of handling it you became stressed out and anxious and didn't know what to do?
That's why learning and understanding how to focus is a big deal.
It's two-fold:
1. It will allow you to respond (by focusing) to the situation and doing what needs to be done, whether it's a life-threatening situation or just a routine, every day decision-making type of situation.
2. It will have you feeling calmer, less stressed and less anxious overall.
Research Study with Marines and Meditation
I just listened to someone who spoke of a research study done with Marines.
Marines, (who work in highly stressful situations and whose lives, theirs and others, depend on them to think clearly), were taught mindfulness meditation. The Marines who meditated for 10 minutes a day or more for 8 weeks were able to remember their working memory abilities.
Those who meditated for less than 10 minutes or not at all, couldn't.
The study concluded that mindfulness and meditation is really helpful to keep a clear mind in stressful situations.
And that is why learning to focus
is so key to having a clear mind. And thus, with a clear mind, anxiety is less likely to take you over. And feeling less anxiety means less brain fog.
Now that is something worth focusing on, don't ya think?!
