Have you ever tried to run away from something that you didn't want to deal with? It may be a situation or event in your life that's happening that you can't seem to shake off or be completely free of.
The thing is, we can't turn left and go back in time. We can't turn right and walk into the future. Heck, we can't even run half an inch forward away from ourselves.
No matter what, we are always right here, right now, with ourselves, in whatever situation we find ourselves in. You are always with yourself and can never run away from yourself no matter how hard you try.
Have you ever thought about that? What feelings surface for you around this?
If you have ever read any spiritual growth books, you may have heard spiritual teachers and guides refer to this as the main cause of why we suffer. And this main cause can be more vehemently described as resistance.
Resistance to
'what is' is one of the huge factors that causes stress and anxiety and that keeps us tethered to the very end of a long dangling rope, making it hard to climb our way back to peace.
So let's take a step back and discover what the term, 'what is', actually means. Adyashanti, a spiritual teacher, describes the term 'what is' as
"this moment, before you add any thoughts to it".
Now let's take a closer look at this for a moment because once you really understand what that term means at a deeper level, you will, hopefully, understand why resistance causes us so much pain and suffering. And this understanding will help you lean toward letting go of resistance.
